Most popular baby names of 1928

In 1928, the most popular names for US babies were Robert for boys (60,701 babies, 5.5% of boys) and Mary for girls (66,872 babies, 5.8% of girls). The rest of the top five were John, James, William and Charles for boys and Betty, Dorothy, Helen and Margaret for girls. SSA recorded 4,723 different boy names and 5,440 different girl names that year.
