Most popular baby names of 1937

In 1937, the most popular names for US babies were Robert for boys (61,842 babies, 5.8% of boys) and Mary for girls (55,643 babies, 5.2% of girls). The rest of the top five were James, John, William and Richard for boys and Barbara, Patricia, Shirley and Betty for girls. SSA recorded 4,020 different boy names and 4,930 different girl names that year.
