In 1957, the most popular names for US babies were Michael for boys (92,786 babies, 4.3% of boys) and Mary for girls (61,103 babies, 3.0% of girls). The rest of the top five were James, David, Robert and John for boys and Susan, Linda, Debra and Karen for girls. SSA recorded 4,554 different boy names and 7,015 different girl names that year.
