Most popular baby names of 1893

In 1893, the most popular names for US babies were John for boys (8,049 babies, 7.2% of boys) and Mary for girls (12,784 babies, 6.0% of girls). The rest of the top five were William, James, George and Charles for boys and Anna, Ruth, Margaret and Elizabeth for girls. SSA recorded 1,179 different boy names and 1,652 different girl names that year.
