Most popular baby names of 1918

In 1918, the most popular names for US babies were John for boys (56,558 babies, 5.6% of boys) and Mary for girls (67,365 babies, 5.8% of girls). The rest of the top five were William, James, Robert and Charles for boys and Helen, Dorothy, Margaret and Ruth for girls. SSA recorded 4,813 different boy names and 5,585 different girl names that year.
