In 1991, the most popular names for US babies were Michael for boys (60,807 babies, 3.0% of boys) and Ashley for girls (43,477 babies, 2.3% of girls). The rest of the top five were Christopher, Matthew, Joshua and Andrew for boys and Jessica, Brittany, Amanda and Samantha for girls. SSA recorded 9,648 different boy names and 15,466 different girl names that year.
