Most popular baby names of 1999

In 1999, the most popular names for US babies were Jacob for boys (35,371 babies, 1.8% of boys) and Emily for girls (26,542 babies, 1.5% of girls). The rest of the top five were Michael, Matthew, Joshua and Nicholas for boys and Hannah, Alexis, Sarah and Samantha for girls. SSA recorded 11,613 different boy names and 16,947 different girl names that year.
