In 1994, the most popular names for US babies were Michael for boys (44,475 babies, 2.3% of boys) and Jessica for girls (32,122 babies, 1.8% of girls). The rest of the top five were Christopher, Matthew, Joshua and Tyler for boys and Ashley, Emily, Samantha and Sarah for girls. SSA recorded 10,243 different boy names and 15,759 different girl names that year.
